Scentory x Rain Ho: Solitude Sculptural Candle

This ceramic candle cup draws inspiration from the works of Taiwanese painter Ma Pai-sui. Through his unique perspective on nature, Ma conveyed a solitary and contemplative gaze — quiet yet profound. This sensibility inspired a reflection on how artists observe the world through their own lens, and how such a gaze, while silent, actively invites the viewer to enter and connect. 

The cup takes on a simple, organic form. Its silhouette subtly shifts from different viewpoints, echoing the layered qualities of natural landscapes. A small opening at the rim serves as a symbolic expression of perspective — an intimate threshold that guides the viewer into an inner landscape, much like Ma’s brush leading the eye into the quiet vastness of nature.

Key ingredients: Bergamot, geranium bourbon, lavender, lemon, neroli, petitgrain, sage, Siberian fir, shiso, white champak leaf

Water embodies the essence of Ma Pai-sui's name as well as his flowy style. Inspired by Ma's style, notes of lemon, petitgrain and shiso are added to capture his young and vivacious spirit. Siberian fir and bergamot reflect his poetic tenderness and the ethereal world he created through ink. White champak leaf — a fragrance that graces the streets of Taiwan in spring — epitomises nostalgia, and by combining it with lavender, it becomes a personal interpretation of Ma's longing for his home.

Rain Ho is a ceramic artist and interior designer whose innovative practice merges the worlds of art and space. Originating from a strong foundation in interior design, Rain’s passion lies in exploring the intricate relationships between objects and their environments. 

In 2019, she ventured into the realm of clay and has since crafted unique works ranging from furniture and lighting to decorative objects. She invites her viewers to engage in a dialogue with the spaces they inhabit. As she evolves, Rain is focused on concepts such as sculptural lighting, inviting the audience to experience the interplay between art and environment.
